The current legislation on solving the illegal immigration problem coming out of the Senate is pathetic.
It just goes to show how little those elites know about what is going on in America.
Forgetting about what is wrong with what is being proposed, here is what needs to be done.
1. Mandate that EVERY resident of the USA have a non forgeable ID card authorizing them to work and with biometric data that is unique to the individual.
2. Since noone will be able to work without it, most all illegals will go home. Fine employers that hire without the card $50,000 for each illegal. Second time, 5 years in prison for the owner or president of the company!
3. Re-open Ellis Island and a similar facility on the West Coast and have all future immigrants as well as those being considered to be allowed to stay for family or other acceptable reasons to travel to an "immigration center" for processing for a week or ten days as our forefathers all had to do, and after checking their health, mental status and character allow them to rejoin their families or return to their jobs. (They will NEVER pay huge fines ($5,000) or return to their home countries as being suggested they will remain in the shadows and become thieves or worse).
4. We will not have to construct such an expensive wall along the Mexican border if illegals know they can't work without the new ID card. These funds can be used to open Ellis Island and other center with the most modern computer technology to register and track everyone allowed to be here legally.
5. Deport those non-compliars with the spectre of 5 or 10 years in a desert work camp if they return again illegally.
6. Allow present illegals, once documented to pay their debt for entering illegally through say, 3 years in a public service project or 4 years in the Army or Marines. This would wipe their slate clean and they could continue a path toward citizenship. If not, only allow them a temporary worker status and make them return home after two or three years of working here.
I believe this is fair to everyone, and is an approach that illegals will comply with. If they don't comply with the new legislation, what's the point of it all anyway?
